waffle life

Wow Wow Waffle was started in the spring of 2011, with the goal of working together with family & friends, and supporting local communities with healthy and tasty treats through the local farmers market. The founder Todd Casselberry, had served in a high position in the action sports world of branding and apparel for several years, and spent many years traveling throughout Europe frequenting the Belgium waffle stands in many of the cities he traveled in. It was in his travels that he discovered the Liege street waffle.

"I fell in love with the Belgian Liege waffle during my various travels. After the loss of our little boy, we decided to get back to living a more simple life with a revived focus on the people and values that were important to us. We enjoy working the farmer's markets as a family together".                                         -                                                  -  Todd Casselberry.

SAN DIEGO WAFFLE PARTNERSHIP

From street wear to street waffles.

Todd and I both have backgrounds in retail and fashion from a partnership over a decade ago. In 98 Todd owned a skateboard brand at the time whose team I well respected – From Karl Watson  to Canton Russell to Dave Kinsey everybody involved in his brand excited me with their usage of their design and skateboarding talents. That same year I started my first humble little shirt company which ended up being how Todd and I connected.

Todd eventually sold that brand and started another with his room mate Hank and was early on the curve of cause-marketing clothing concepts. At that time they were doing a lot of downtown homeless feeds and something struck a chord in their hearts to create a clothing brand whose sales would generate revenue to build a homeless youth center downtown San Diego.

In 2002 nikao youth project was birthed. After partnering with Todd and Nikao for a couple years we decided to part our ways as business partners and eventually after a year of each of us running our retail stores apart from each other we both decided to close up shops on our own volition. Todd ended up transitioning to the corporate side of the skateboarding industry and i ended up traveling the world with the local Christian church and doing freelance work as an artist.

Six years later Todd and I reconnected after he established Wow Wow Waffle up in Redding California. Through the loss of his first son, Todd and his family decided to slow down from the corporate work mentality and start a small farmers market style business where the day to day schedules weren't based on sales revenues or million dollar production forecasts. But instead, the waffle work week could be developed based on a small business mentatilty.

Today as a brand we are still family run and operated and set values of family first over our dreams and desires to deliver everyone the best waffle they'll ever taste.

waffle culture

We started with Skateboarding in the 90's. From there we went with street fashion and helped lay the foundation for what the world now calls - street wear. After a small stint in the corporate rat race we ended up settling down from our world travels and digging our heels in our local communities through crafting this culinary experiment of craving the perfect waffle and lemonade pairing.

Retail Innovation

With back grounds dabbling in retail (flagship store in mira mesa [2001-2004] & nikao youth project in the east village [2003-2005]) We naturally wanted our brand to have it's own brick and mortar stores in order to better serve our communities in San Diego, Maui, and Oahu. From kiosks to cafes to lemonade trucks and waffle bikes. Our goal is to make your wow wow waffle and wow wow lemonade experience a pleasurable one.

Waffle Dedication

We've traveled the world as far as the east is from the west in search of the best Belgium waffle ingredients. From Amsterdam to London to the streets of San Francisco. Dozens of recipes, distributors, and dough waffles later we are proud to present to you the (in our humble opinion) perfect waffle. If it's not the best waffle you've ever had - then we will gladly refund your experience.

WAFFLES + RETAIL.

WAFFLES + RETAIL.

Born In Belgium but imported to the states

The street waffle was engineered in the eighteenth century by the prince of Liege, Belgium. It was his chef's personal recipe... Our waffle is known as the brother to the Brussels waffle.. the other Belgium waffle... only better. Made from dough and not batter. Made sweet, soft, but contrasted with crunchy sugar that caramelizes the outside of the waffle which cooks like a fresh Brioche bread. This style waffle takes about two days to make.. which is why it's such a rare gem here in the states.

RETAIL (store back) in North Park

So after spending all of 2013 looking for a place to call home - we nestled our Waffle HQ (office, kitchen, + togo shop) in North Park. Tucked away (seriously) behind a hipster laundromat. We fell in love with this space upon first sight and it was a fun challenge to do with no investors, no bank loans, no credit cards, no savings... just hard earned waffle bucks, some sweat equity, and a little thinking outside of the box. Isn't that the american dream? Waffles all day... every day.
